Home Remedies for Puffy Eyes
Try any or all of
these remedies.
- Wash face with ice cold water
- Fill a small bowl with iced water or ice-cold milk. Soak a cottonwool pad with the liquid and lie down with the dampened pads over your eyes. Replace the pads as soon as they become warm. Continue for 15 minutes. As well as reducing puffiness, this treatment will brighten the whites of your eyes.
- Drink lots of water. Puffy eyes often indicate water retention, which you can alleviate by drinking plenty of liquids; this flushes excess salt from your system.
- Place two slices of cool cucumber on the eyes for several minutes
- Remove contact lenses each night before bed to avoid puffiness caused by lens irritation and drying.
- Moisten two tea bags in cold water, chill them in the refrigerator and place them over closed eyelids for several minutes
- For allergy related puffy eyes, find out the item causing the allergic reaction and minimize its use; doctors may also provide medication in the form of shots or prescription drugs
- Soothing Eye creams with aloe and Vitamin E can be applied to the eyes
If the problem persists, see your doctor. You may be reacting to dust, pets, medication or other irritants, or you may have an underlying medical condition
