Acne During Pregnancy - Prevention and Acne medication

Acne can pick on pregnant women. It is not uncommon for pregnant women to experience breakouts at any time during pregnancy or later. Acne is a skin problem which the women are facing during pregnancy as the skin becomes very sensitive. If you are experiencing new acne, it is due to the change in your body and will go away after the baby is born.

Taking Acne Medications During Pregnancy

There are some oral medicines that can be dangerous if taken during pregnancy. The doctor can prescribe certain drugs to the pregnant women such as Retin-A, Accutane and Tetracycline. There are a few you can take or substitute with a topical application, but if you are not aware of the differences, your may have abnormalities. We highly recommend not taking any oral medications during pregnancy.

Tips on Preventing and curing Acne during Pregnancy

Wash gently with a mild soap or cleanser twice a day, and if you use moisturizer make sure it's oil-free. Don't scrub your face with a washcloth, since scrubbing can make the problem worse. Instead, use your hands to gently wash your face.

In the course of the pregnancy, acne condition can strike from mild to worst especially during the first trimester of pregnancy. The skin condition is likely to improve during the latter part of pregnancy when the estrogen levels shall have increased.  The real problem would occur to women who have had previous problems with acne or are more prone to breakouts just before their periods.

The women during pregnancy clean the skin twice in a day to keep it oil free. An oil-absorbing microfiber cloth can be used by them while washing their face.

Pat your skin dry rather than rubbing it, which can irritate acne.

It is advised not to over cleanse the skin to avoid stripping skin of the essential oils.

Don't squeeze, rub, or pop your pimples - it'll make the problem worse and could lead to scarring.

Extra care should also be taken while rubbing the affected area like acne as it can spread the infection to other parts of the face and body.

If you wear makeup, use products that are water- (not oil-) based and are labeled "noncomedogenic" or "nonacnegenic," meaning they won't clog your pores and cause breakouts. Be sure to wash off your makeup before going to bed, too.
